Mapping Pollutants in Bergen, Norway

In early spring Malin Andersson and Guri Venvik Ganerød from the Geological Survey of Norway carried out mapping of manholes for sediment samples, soil samples and XRF measurements on painted building in the catchment area for Bryggen in Bergen, one of the case studies in INXCES.

Pollutants like heavy metals and organic components such as PCB and PAH are transported with storm water in cities. By mapping sources for pollutants and distribution we can estimate how much will be transported to the rain garden, which is a measure for infiltrating and cleaning storm water.
